The Astrology of Earthquakes
« on: 19.01.2012 at 16:06 [UT] »

This is an overview of the astrological factors that correlate with the occurrence of major earthquakes throughout the world.

Sometimes earthquakes occur when one of the outer planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) changes sign.  One of the most notable recent examples is the earthquake that struck near Honshu, Japan on March 11, 2011, on the day when Uranus entered Aries.  Earthquakes (or clusters of earthquakes) often arise within two or three days of the change in zodiac sign.  For example, Jupiter entered Aries on January 22, 2011.  A magnitude 7.2 earthquake occurred in Pakistan on January 18, and a magnitude 6.1 earthquake in Tajikistan on January 24.  The following are further examples, this time demonstrated using the entry of Neptune into Pisces (which is especially important to note because Neptune’s passage into Pisces will reoccur this year on February 4, 2012):

April 4, 2011 – Neptune enters Pisces: earthquake on April 1 near Honshu, JAPAN [magnitude 6.0], April 1 near Dodecanese Island GREECE [6.1], April 2 in Tarapaca, CHILE [6.0], April 3 near Java INDONESIA [6.3], April 3 in Fiji Island region [6.4], April 6 near Sumatra INDONESIA [6.0], April 7 in Veracruz MEXICO [6.7], April 7 near Honshu, JAPAN [7.1].

August 4, 2011 – Neptune enters Aquarius: earthquake on July 31 in VANUATU [magnitude 6.2], July 31 in Wewak, PAPUA NEW GUINEA, August 4 in Kuril Islands [6.1], August 7 in Israel [4.2].

Very destructive or large magnitude earthquakes also are seen when a planet is stationary.  The most noteworthy recent example of this correlation happened on January 12, 2010 when a powerful earthquake wreaked havoc in Leogane/Port-au-Prince HAITI, just one day prior to Saturn’s change from direct to retrograde motion.  (Note that Saturn changes again from direct to retrograde on February 7, 2012.)  Here are some other examples:

April 9, 2011 – Pluto is stationary: earthquake on April 7 near Honshu, JAPAN [magnitude 7.1], April 7 in Veracruz MEXICO [6.7], April 11 – 13 (multiple) near Honshu JAPAN.

June 12, 2011 – Saturn is stationary: earthquake on June 13 in Christchurch NEW ZEALAND [magnitude 6.3], June 13 in the Molucca Sea [6.3], June 16 in New Britain PAPUA NEW GUINEA [6.4]

July 9, 2011 – Uranus is stationary: earthquake on July 6 in Kermadec Islands, NEW ZEALAND [magnitude 7.6], July 9 northeast Japan [7.1], July 11 in Negros PHILLIPINES [6.4]

September 16, 2011 – Pluto is stationary: earthquake on September 15 in Ndoi Island, FIJI [7.3], September 18 at the India/Nepal border [6.9], September 19 in GUATEMALA [5.8]

December 10, 2011 – Uranus is stationary: earthquake on December 10 near Iguala, MEXICO [6.5], December 14 near Lae PAPUA NEW GUINEA [7.1]

A stellium in an astrological chart frequently accompanies earthquakes.  A stellium is seen in the astrological charts of the following earthquakes:

July 28, 1976 in Tangshan CHINA [magnitude 7.8]
January 17, 1994 in Los Angeles USA [6.7]
February 27, 2010 in Valparaiso CHILE [8.8]
October 25, 2010 in Bengkulu INDONESIA [7.7]
February 22, 2011 in Christchurch NEW ZEALAND [6.3]
March 11, 2011 near Honshu JAPAN [9.0]
March 24, 2011 in Lashio BURMA [6.8]

Another common pattern noted in the event charts of earthquakes is having a planet or asteroid opposite the fixed stars Spica or Regulus .  One sees this on December 26, 2004 when a 9.1-magnitude earthquake occurred near Banda Aceh INDONESIA.  Uranus was opposite Regulus.  Other examples include the following:

December 4, 1957 – Ulaanbaatar MONGOLIA [magnitude 8.1] – Pallas opposite Spica
March 28, 2005 near Sibolga INDONESIA [8.6] – North Node opposite Spica
January 17, 1994 in Los Angeles USA [6.7] – Saturn opposite Regulus, Lillith opposite Spica
June 3, 1994 in Surabaya INDONESIA [7.5] – Pallas opposite Spica

An interesting relationship is found between earthquakes and solar and lunar eclipses.  There are typically three to six eclipses a year.  Any one eclipse in a particular year belongs to a family of related eclipses that span approximately 1200 to 1400 years.  Consecutive eclipses belonging to a particular family (known as a Saros series) occur 18 years apart.  See Eclipses and the Saros Cycle (http://members.bitstream.net/bunlion/bpi/EclSaros.html) and The Saros Cycle – Eclipses Come In Families (http://www.bernadettebrady.com/Pdfs/SarosCycles.pdf) for more details.  When the North Node coincides with the zodiac degree of an eclipse, an earthquake is often found to occur.  Other eclipses in the same Saros series will be associated with an earthquake when the North Node coincides with their respective eclipse degrees within about six months of when those eclipses occur.  For example:

In 1994 a lunar eclipse occurred on May 25.  It belongs to the lunar Saros 140 series.  The eclipse occurred at 3 degrees 41 minutes of Gemini/Sagittarius.  On January 17, 1994, the day of the massive Northridge earthquake, the North Node is found at 1 degree 15 minutes of Sagittarius, a difference of only 2 degrees 26 minutes from the eclipse point.

In 1976 another eclipse of the lunar Saros 140 series took place on May 13.  It happened at 23 degrees 9 minutes of Taurus/Scorpio.  On November 29, 1975, when a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck Kalapana HAWAII, the North Node was at 21 degrees 46 minutes of Scorpio.  This is only 1 degree 23 minutes from the eclipse degree.

In 1958 a lunar Saros 140 series eclipse occurred on May 3 at 12 degrees 35 minutes of Taurus/Scorpio.  About five months previously, on December 4, 1957, a magnitude 8.1 earthquake took place in Ulaanbaatar MONGOLIA.  On this day the North Node was at 10 degrees 20 minutes of Scorpio, which is only 2 degrees 15 minutes away from the 1958 eclipse degree.

(Of note, there will be another lunar Saros 140 eclipse in 2012 on June 4.  It will be at 14 degrees 11 minutes of Gemini/Sagittarius.  And on February 7, 2012 the North Node will be at 11 degrees 58 minutes of Sagittarius, only 2 degrees 13 minutes from this year’s lunar Saros 140 eclipse.)

At the time of an earthquake the corresponding astrological chart may contain an abundance of squares, inconjuncts and oppositions.  Just to give one example, at the time of the Sibolga INDONESIA earthquake on March 28, 2005, Pluto was inconjunct Lillith and Saturn, Neptune was inconjunct Saturn and Varuna, and Jupiter was inconjunct Pars Fortuna.  In addition, Pluto was square both the Vertex and Juno, Neptune was square Pars Fortuna, and Jupiter was square Varuna.  In all, there were nine major challenging aspects.

When we use the correlations discussed above to look for particular days this year when a significant earthquake might occur, the days February 3 – February 8 warrant some attention.  As already mentioned, in this period of time an outer planet changes signs (Neptune enters Pisces on February 4), a major planet goes stationary (Saturn stations on February 7), a stellium1 is present (in Aquarius/Pisces and Pisces/Aries), and a planet is found in opposition to a fixed star that is considered one of the most fortunate (Neptune opposes Regulus).  But most significantly, during these few days the North Node is only about two degrees away from the eclipse point associated with the lunar Saros 140 eclipse of 2012, an eclipse whose family history is strongly associated with major earthquakes.

1Notably, the stellium becomes more prominent several weeks afterwards on February 20, suggesting that further earthquakes will be seen beginning in late February.

Really interesting information.  I've read about the NN/eclipse connection, this is usually also considered a 'strong' eclipse astrologically speaking.  Thanks!

Part II - Predicting location

There is an interesting correlation between the eclipses that comprise a particular Saros series and the site of occurrence of major earthquakes.  The location on earth where an earthquake strikes appears related to the paran lines seen in the astrolocality map associated with the eclipse that falls immediately prior in the Saros series.

Eclipse (Saros 140)     Earthquake/ North Node position    Paran line in astrolocality map of previous Saros 140 eclipse

05/25/1994                  Los Angeles, USA   01/17/1994           Sun MC / Moon IC
3 Sag/Gem 10              1 Sag 15 (diff. 2deg 26min)

Halmahera, Indonesia 01/21/94          Saturn IC / Mars IC
                                    1 Sag 10 (diff. 2deg 31min)

05/13/1976                  Kalapana, Hawaii    11/29/1975           Mars AC
23 Sco/Tau 08              21 Sco 46 (diff. 1deg 22min)

Tonga   12/27/1975                            Sun IC / Moon MC
                                    20 Sco 59 (diff. 2deg 9min)

                                    Kopasker, Iceland 01/13/1976            Neptune IC
                                    19 Sco 54 (diff. 3deg 14min)

05/03/1958                 Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia 12/04/1957    Sun MC / Moon IC
12 Sco/Tau 34             10 Sco 20 (diff. 2deg 14min)

04/22/1940                 Chuquibamba, Peru 10/11/1939          Uranus DC
1 Sco/Tau 54               29 Lib 17 (diff. 2deg 37min)

04/11/1922                 Elsinore, Utah, USA 09/29/1921          North Node DC
21 Lib/Ari 09               18 Lib 03 (3deg 06min)

03/31/1904                 Athens, Greece    08/11/1903             Sun AC / Moon DC
10 Lib/Ari 23               7 Lib 44 (diff. 2deg 39min)

So, for example, in the attached astrolocality map of the lunar Saros 140 series eclipse that occurred on 05/13/1976 at 23 Sco/Tau 08, Los Angeles lies on the Sun MC / Moon IC paran line.  Then in 1994, which was the year when an eclipse next in line in the Saros 140 series occurred, Los Angeles was struck by an earthquake when the North Node was conjunct the Saros 140 eclipse degree of 1994.  This pattern holds true for the entire Saros 140 series, where earthquakes are seen to occur at paran lines corresponding to the Sun/Moon, Mars, Uranus, Saturn, Neptune, and North Node.  Of note, the Sun/Moon paran line was involved in the last three years that there was a lunar Saros 140 series eclipse.

Now, looking at the astrolocality map of the lunar Saros 140 eclipse of 1994, one can see that the paran line of Sun DC / Moon AC passes through the Oregon/California border, the Sun AC / Moon DC line through central Europe and eastern Africa, and the Sun MC / Moon IC line through the Koreas, Phillipines, Indonesia and western Australia.  This suggests that these locations may be more susceptible to an earthquake that could strike in 2012 when the North Node is approximately 1 - 3 degrees past the eclipse point of the lunar Saros 140 eclipse this year (14 Sag/Gem 10), or, in other words, about Jan. 26 - Feb. 19.

Hi, thank you for the above links.  Unfortunately, Google does not adequately translate the Greek text in the posts you list into English, and, so, it is not possible to follow the ideas discussed in those posts.

It's useful to observe the patterns seen with eclipses belonging to the same triple Saros series as they relate to the location of major earthqakes.

Because of the extra 1/3 day in the 18 year 11 1/3 day Saros cycle however, eclipses do occur at the same time and place after three complete Saros cycles. This period of almost exactly 54 years and 34 days (19,755.96 days) is known as the Triple Saros or exeligmos (Greek "turn of the wheel"). So by recording all eclipses in a 54-year period, early astronomer/astrologers could predict future eclipses at their location with certainty.
(From http://www.myastrologybook.com/Exeligmos-Triple-Saros-eclipse-cycle.htm)

In the last approximately 150 years, eclipses in the years 1850, 1904, 1958 and 2012 belong to the same triple Saros series.

In 1850 a powerfully destructive earthquake hit Sichuan, China (? Sept. 8/ Sept. 12/ Sept. 22).
In 1904 the strongest and/or most devastating earthquakes occurred in Fairbanks, Alaska (Aug. 27) and Xingang, Taiwan (Nov. 6).
In 1958 the most significant earthquakes struck at the Ecuador/Colombian border (Jan. 19), in Lituya Bay, Alaska (July 10), and in the Kuril Islands (Nov. 6).

Looking at the map of the umbra of the Solar Saros 133 eclipse that took place in 1688, one sees that Sichuan, China and Fairbanks, Alaska lie on or near the umbra.
[See the attachment to this post.]
In the map of the Solar Saros 133 eclipse of 1742 Taiwan and the Kuril Islands lie directly on the umbra.
[See the attachment in the following post.]
In the map of the Solar Saros 133 eclipse of 1796, when extrapolated eastward, the umbra lies near the Ecuador/Colombia border.
[See the attachment in the post after that.]

(See http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEsaros/SEsaros133.html for another depiction of the eclipse maps.)

The years 1688, 1742 and 1796 also are years that contain eclipses of the same triple Saros series as those in the years 1850, 1904, 1958 and 2012.  It seems as if the total solar eclipses from two centuries ago influence the site of earthquakes in the more recent past over three consecutive years of a triple saros cycle.  If this is true, then the Solar Saros 133 eclipses of 1742, 1796 and 1850 could determine where the most destructive earthquakes might strike in 2012.  Looking again at the map associated with 1742, one sees that the western coast of the United States could be significantly impacted.

Note again from the previous post how in the astrolocality map of the lunar Saros 140 eclipse of 1994, the Sun MC / Moon IC paran line extends through the Koreas, Phillipines, Indonesia and western Australia.  It seems that the epicenter of today's earthquake was in Dumaguete, Negros Island, Phillipines, placing it approximately midway between the Sun MC / Moon IC and the Pluto IC paran lines.

See also how the umbra of the Solar Saros 133 eclipse from 1796 extends to the central Phillipines. (You can view another version of this map at http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEsearch/SEsearchmap.php?Ecl=17960704  .  Just click and drag the map so you can see the western-most extent of the umbra.)

6.8 quake in Philippines kills 13, buries homes

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — A strong earthquake destroyed buildings and triggered landslides that buried dozens of houses, trapping residents, Monday in the central Philippines. At least 13 people were killed and 29 were missing.

The 6.8-magnitude quake, in a narrow strait just off Negros Island, caused a landslide in Guihulngan, a city of about 180,000 people in Negros Oriental province. As many as 30 houses were buried and at least 29 people were missing, Mayor Ernesto Reyes said.

...

The quake, which hit at 11:49 a.m. (0349 GMT), triggered another landslide in the mountain village of Solongon in La Libertad town, also in Negros Oriental. An unknown number of people were trapped, said La Libertad police chief inspector Eric Arrol Besario.

The Astrology of Earthquakes and the Significance of 11/11

When looking at the series of the most recent years when Saros 128 and 133 eclipses occurred (i.e., 1994, 1976, 1958, 1940 and 1922) it's peculiar how in every one of those years a major earthquake struck on the date November 11 or within four days of it:

Nov. 15, 1994: The 1994 Mindoro earthquake occurred on November 15, 1994 at 03:15 local time (November 14, 1994 at 19:15 UTC) near Mindoro, the Philippines. It had a magnitude of Mw 7.1, or Ms 7.1. 78 people were reported dead. 7566 houses were damaged. The earthquake generated a tsunami. There were landslides in the Verde Island.
(From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1994_Mindoro_earthquake)

Nov. 11, 1976: ...a M7.3 earthquake occurred on November 11, 1976 destroying several villages near the Turkey and Iran border and killing several thousand people.
(From http://thewatchers.adorraeli.com/2011/10/23/understanding-7-2-van-earthquake/)

Nov. 6/7, 1958: On November 6, 1958, a magnitude 8.3 earthquake struck the Kuril Islands of Russia. [11/07 09:58 local time = 11/06 22:58 Universal Time]
(From http://eqtactics.hubpages.com/hub/Asian-Earthquakes)

Nov. 10, 1940: The 1940 Vrancea earthquake...occurred on Sunday, November 10, 1940 in Romania at 03:39 AM local time....The 1940 earthquake was an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 or 7.7 on the Richter scale, with epicenter in Vrancea zone at a depth of about 133 km....The number of victims was estimated at 1,000 dead and 4,000 injured, mostly in Moldova.
(From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1940_Vrancea_earthquake)

Nov. 11, 1922: The 1922 Vallenar earthquake was a magnitude 8.5 earthquake that occurred in the Atacama Region of Chile, near the border with Argentina on November 11, 1922 at 04:32 UTC.  It triggered a destructive tsunami that caused significant damage to the coast of Chile and was observed as far away as Australia....The tsunami killed several hundred people in coastal cities, especially in Coquimbo.

One wonders, then, if we can expect a major earthquake on or around November 11 this year, which is also a year with eclipses in the Saros 128 and 133 series. Perhaps there is a significance to the frequent sighting of 11:11 by many people on digital clocks and of other 11:11 (11/11) signs.

This is what the numerologist Gerun Moore says of the number 11:
This is an unfavorable number which governs danger, deception from others, difficulties in life, enemies, and trouble through public activities as well as conflict with the opposite sex.
(From Numbers Will Tell, pub. 1973)

Compare this interpretation with that given by Faith Javane and Dusty Bunker in Numerology and the Divine Triangle, where the authors emphasize karma and balance as representative of 11.

"When should we expect the next major earthquake?"

I am now convinced that there will be a major earthquake on Nov. 11, 2012 (+/- one day) and that it will be, although not the next major earthquake, one, nevertheless, that is likely very destructive.  This is not only because of this date's historical association with major earthquakes, as I detailed in my last post, but also because of the astrological alignments that will occur on Nov. 11 this year.

The chart for this day is shown in the attachment to this post.  The three most important findings are as follows:

(1) Lilith at 6Gem41 - at this position Lilith is only 00deg 05min from the eclipse point of this year's lunar Saros 145 eclipse!

(2) Jupiter (retrograde) at 14Gem05 - here Jupiter is only 00deg 8min from the eclipse point of the 2012 lunar Saros 140 eclipse!

(3) Sun at 19Sco30 - the Sun is only 02deg 26min from the eclipse point of the solar Saros 133 eclipse that occurs this year.  (Nov. 11 2012 is only two days from the total solar eclipse of Nov. 13.)

In addition, there are multiple planets and asteroids at 3 - 7 degrees of the various signs (Ceres, Chiron, Saturn, Uranus, Lilith, Pluto), which means that there are numerous aspects produced by these bodies (this being one of the factors that contributes to earthquakes).

As I will show in a subsequent post, in every year this past century when there have been eclipses of the Saros 128, 140, 133 and 145 families (which, again, are the eclipses that will occur in 2012) major earthquakes that struck in the latter part of those years were all related to the conjunction of Lilith with the eclipse points of the Saros 128 and 145 eclipses.  And for one of the earthquakes in each of those years an outer planet or a malefic planet was conjunct another eclipse point at the same time.

Just watching a documentary on the San Fran quake of 1906.  I really have a strong feeling California is going to be hit again or the west coast of North America.

I agree that something should hit and anywhere near san andreas fault/ cascadia is the major suspect. I would expect anytime in march with long discussed VenusJupiterLilithconjunct, mercury rx MarsoppositionChiron PlutosquareUranusetc etc
though on my least is of course middle east, mediterranian coast(ialy near naples, palestine/syria / iran(though this one is already in a tense area but could be much hotter in the next few months) and asia since the may 20 eclipse will star kicking in pretty soon. To be honest, my hair stand up Shocked when i look at this spring's transits.  as i wrote before I don't expect anything exciting with this VenusMarsretrogrades in hard aspects to neptune and chiron and since venus jupiter mutual reception dissolved last week....

hello springRoll Eyes

A war with a huge massacre? possible
a mega earthquake? possible
multiple earthquakes and significant volcanic eruption? possible
an economic chaos? possible too

Again, i don't think that it will be just an earthquake but there will be definitely one of the big ones.

Here is the data that demonstrates that significant earthquakes occur when Lilith conjuncts the degree of a Saros 128 solar eclipse:

1994
Solar Saros 128 on May 10 at 19Tau48
Earthquake on Oct. 4 with Lilith at 19Tau54 (difference of 0deg 6min, separating aspect)

A magnitude 8.1 earthquake occurred in the southern Kurils and on northern Hokkaido on Tuesday, October 5, 1994, (October 4 at 13:23 GMT). It was a sudden event, without any short- term precursors or foreshocks. The earthquake epicenter was located 80 km east southeast of Shikotan Island. At Kuzhno-Kurilsk, Kunsashir Island, tsunami heights ranged from 2.5-3.0 m.
(From http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/hazardimages/event/show/20)

1976
Solar Saros 128 on April 29 at 9Tau13
Earthquake on Oct. 25 with Lilith at 9Tau57 (diff 0deg 44min, separating)

The most powerful recorded earthquake in Estonia, measuring 4.7 magnitudes in Richter scale, occurred on 25 October 1976 near Osmussaar and is known as the Osmussaar earthquake. The earthquake caused the collapse of some sections of the cliff on the island's northeast coast and damaged some buildings on the island.

1958
Solar Saros 128 on April 19 at 28Ari34
Earthquake on Nov. 6/7 with Lilith at 28Ari52 (diff 0deg 18min, separating)

Kuril Islands - 1958 November 06 UTC - Magnitude 8.3
Destructive earthquake (intensity IX) on the island of Iturup (Kuriles)

(From http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/world/events/1958_11_06.php)

1940
Solar Saros 128 on April 7 at 17Ari51
Earthquake on Nov. 18 with Lilith at 17Ari46 (diff 0deg 05min, applying)

Japan [no further details found]
(From http://www.mri-jma.go.jp/Publish/Papers/DATA/VOL_23/23_001.pdf)

1922
Solar Saros 128 on March 28 at 7Ari04
Earthquake on Dec. 8 with Lilith at 7Ari25 (diff 0deg 21min, separating)

Earthquakes on the Shimabara Peninsula (December 8, 1922, M 6.9, M 6.5) ...occurred in succession in less than 10 hours. The first was at 1:50 a.m. (M 6.9), and the second was at 11:02 a.m. (M 6.5)....The first earthquake caused extensive damage in the southern Shimabara Peninsula, particularly Kitaarima. The second earthquake caused substantial damage near Obama in the western part of Shimabara Peninsula. Combined, these two earthquakes resulted in 26 fatalities, 39 people injured, and the complete collapse of some houses.
(From http://www.hp1039.jishin.go.jp/eqchreng/9-2-4.htm)

The above earthquakes, although substantial in magnitude, were not, however, as devastating as some others this last century. Nevertheless, if we were to predict when the next earthquake is to occur that may be related to Lilith's conjunction with the eclipse degree of this year's Saros 128 eclipse (i.e., 00Gem20), then we would select the days Sept. 15 - 22, when Lilith transits from 00Gem15 to 01Gem04.

There is a close association also between major earthquakes and the conjunction of Lilith with the eclipse degree of lunar Saros 145 eclipses:

1994
Lunar Saros 145 on Nov. 18 at 25Sco/Tau44
Earthquake on Nov. 15 with Lilith at 24Tau35 (difference of 1deg 9min, applying aspect)

The 1994 Mindoro earthquake occurred on November 15, 1994 at 03:15 local time (November 14, 1994 at 19:15 UTC) near Mindoro, the Philippines.

1976
Lunar Saros 145 on Nov. 6 at 14Sco/Tau40
Earthquake on Nov. 24 with Lilith at 13Tau17 (diff 1deg 23min, applying)

The 1976 Çaldıran-Muradiye earthquake occurred at 14:22 local time (12:22 UTC) on 24 November. The epicenter was located near Çaldıran, 20 km northeast of Muradiye, in the Van Province of eastern Turkey. The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.3 with a maximum intensity of X on the Mercalli intensity scale. The area of severe damage, where over 80% of the buildings were destroyed, covered an area of 2,000 square kilometres. There were between 4,000 and 5,000 casualties.
(From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1976_%C3%87ald%C4%B1ran-Muradiye_earthquake)

1958
Lunar Saros 145 on Oct. 27 at 3Sco/Tau42
Earthquake on Dec. 28 with Lilith at 4Tau33 (diff 0deg 51min, separating)

On December 28, 1958, the town of Kapkote and neighbouring places situated on the sides of the valley of the river Sarju, about 70 miles northeast of Almora was subjected to an earthquake of moderate intensity (Richter magnitude approximately 6.25). There were numerous instances of landslides in the area indicating the disturbance of the earth structure. Subsequent to this earthquake, there were several aftershocks in 1959. The damage was mostly local as the magnitude of the earthquake was only 6.25, and its focus was located at a depth of about 20 to 25 miles. Even so, as far away as 150 miles, structural cracks at junctions widened in certain buildings. At Roorkee, India, about 200 miles from the epicentre, earthquake effects were felt.

1940
Lunar Saros 145 on Oct. 16 at 22Lib/Ari48
Earthquake on Jan. 14, 1941 with Lilith at 24Ari00 (diff 1deg 12min, separating)

Rabaul, Papua New Guinea: In December 1940, temperatures of Tavurvur fumaroles rose from 100 c at a rate of 10 c/day for two weeks, then rose an additional 22-28 c during the morning before a large earthquake (M=7.0) on 14 January 1941 (13 January GMT), centered approximately 30 km west of the caldera (Ripper, 1979).
(From http://www.geo.mtu.edu/volcanoes/rabaul/rabaul.usgs.html)

1922
Lunar Saros 145 on Oct. 6 at 11Lib/Ari59
Earthquake on Jan. 22, 1923 with Lilith at 12Ari29 (diff 0deg 30min, separating)

JANUARY 22, 1923 (M=7.2) The earthquake of January 22, 1923, strongly shook the Cape Mendocino region and toppled many chimneys in the area. This earthquake was probably associated with the Mendocino Fracture Zone.
(From http://www.johnmartin.com/earthquakes/eqsafs/safs_665.htm)

(Notice, too, that there is a progressive shortening in the interval of time between the eclipse and the earthquake event as one advances in time from the earlier to the latter part of the twentieth century.)

Once again, if we were to make a prediction of when an earthquake might strike this year in association with Lilith's conjunction with the degree of the 2012 lunar Saros 145 eclipse (i.e., with 06Sag/Gem46) a reasonable interval might extend from Oct. 30 - Nov. 4, when Lilith is found going from 5Gem22 to 5Gem55 (diff 01deg 24min to 00deg 51min, applying).  I think the days surrounding Nov. 11 must still be strongly considered, again, not only because of the historical association of earthquakes with this date, but also because on this day, in addition to Lilith being tightly conjunct the lunar Saros 145 eclipse degree, Jupiter likewise tightly conjuncts the degree of the lunar Saros 140 eclipse of this year.
