My most recent research project is looking at rain records for Sydney since 1980 to find correlations with planetary cycles. Most interestingly, over this 27 year period, the total rain on the dates ten days before each monthly Moon-Uranus conjunction is three standard deviations above average, and almost three standard deviations below average four days before each Moon-Uranus conjunction. This is a highly significant result which suggests a correlation between long term rain rhythms and planetary cycles. Similar but slightly weaker correlations exist between these rain records and the cycles of the moon with other planets. This result could easily be replicated against other long term daily rain records. I have planetary data since 1890, and would welcome the chance to examine other rain datasets. This is a purely astronomical question, looking at the strength of empirical rhythms to help quantify planetary effects.  Extensive discussion of this post is at

That's very interesting research.  Thanks for sharing it with us.  
 
You seem to be holding your own with the skeptics as well on BAUT.  Although they are trying to trip you up, it's good to face some of these possible objections.  I have to admit most of the finer statistical points are beyond me, so I can't be sure how significant your results are.  That's really an ongoing problem with astrologers venturing into the scientific arena -- very few are well versed enough in stats to deal with standard protocols.
 
I would think the rainfall distribution is normal across many years, but that is still something that has to be proven.  I am also unaware of any seasonal variations in Sydney's rainfall that might enter into the equation.  
 
It is a bit strange that rainfall would increase 10 days before conjunction but then fall off again 3 days before.
 
You seem convinced of the gravitational role in all of this.  Hats off -- I think most astrologers have been scared off that angle (including me) given the constant hectoring by scientists of negligible gravitational forces in the delivery room.   Personally, I would have left the question open and just stuck with the correlation.  
 
I guess replication with other data beckons.   Keep us apprised.  It's fantastic that you're trying to prove astrology using solid scientific methodology.

The universe has macrosystems and microsytems. We live in a microsystem (solar system) of Sun, Moon, earth and 8 planets in our system. We also live in a Universe or macrosystem.
 
There seems to be no doubt that the Moon and the tides affect human issues. The rotation of the earth around the Sun affect us with seasons amongst other things.  There are mechanical reasons for many events, including the activity in police stations and hospitals at full moon and high tide.
 
This has nothing to do directly with astrology in my opinion. However, when planetary alignments are such that indicate and event, astrology will describe the result of any mechanical events whether we are aware of them, and are measuring them or not.
 
Some astrologers are talented at taking this symbolic language and finding physical events such as earthquakes and storms in advance. Cause and effect are not necessary -- only excellent reading of keywords and positions.
 
IMO, the two things (mechanical and symbolic) are not mutually exclusive or dependent on one another since astrology works as a symbolic language without any absolute mechanical measurements or proofs beyond the physically local moon cycles.
