Marion Jones, the sports phenomenon, former Olympics medalist, and media darling, is our newsmaker this week. Tall and attractive, with her charming smile and competitive drive, she set out to win. In a relatively short career, she stunned the world with her record-setting, medal-earning performance. Amidst her wonderful achievements and lucrative contracts for product endorsements, rumors of drug use abounded. Late last year (2007) she admitted to lying to federal prosecutors about her use of illegal performance-enhancing drugs and about her knowledge of a check-fraud scheme. Stripped of her medals and financially broke, she reported to jail recently to serve her six-month sentence. Let's study her chart for the astrological indicators of this remarkable story.

We first note the exact conjunction of Uranus to her Scorpio Ascendant. Uranus is rather precisely squared by Saturn in conjunction to her 10th house cusp (Equal House System) and Midheaven. What do these placements and aspects tell us about her and her life? What might they foretell in terms of her life events, both positive and negative?
As you study her biography and life events, where does the 12th house Libran Sun in opposition to Jupiter show up?
Sometimes after a great fall from grace, there is great redemption. Are there such themes in her chart? If at this point in her life she consulted with you about her future, how would you describe the possibilities and potential shown in her birth chart?

The famed athlete would have to have a Mars ruled ascendant in the 9th, according to the study by Michel Gauquelin. Here, Mars is in the sign of fleet-footed Mercury, so we have a clear fit on the metaphors, a warrior-like self-discipline (training constantly) and feet with Mercury's wings.
Extremes are a part of the Neptune archetype, so I searched to find his signature in this extreme high visibility chart. The arc of fate seems to move by fate's own hand, or by some bad choices... she can think about it while in prison, from the great heights to some bottomless pit by age 33.
Venus, which rules her 7th would show that she could cast a blind eye in the direction of her partner, in whom the problem was first discovered. A square from Neptune to Venus would tend to describe something missing (Neptune is not only extremes, but the Zero) from their perceived goal as a couple. He was using. She could overlook this in the "little lies I tell myself" department.
Pluto opposed her Mars these last few months, imposing the scenes from Psyche's tale, where she must go into the Underworld and eat from the crumbs of the high table. I am sure, for a vibrant athlete used to hotels and international travel (Mars in the 9th) the cell will be very close to hell.
And Saturn's three-time pass of her Venus: probably to exact on Venus by the 7th of March, gives us the confinement story of Saturn.

She will return with a message of hope and perhaps redeem herself.

1. well with uranus rising in scorpio, this is a unusual birth, one that will seek liberation, freedom and uniqueness through the power of will. In a exact square to a leo saturn, their will be control to get to the top at all cost. maybe this came out to control the ability to win via enhancing performance drugs! Being in tension with the planet of sudden erratic change and chaos. She was toppled from the great heights from behind the scenes through a deeper investigation(outside Authorities), scorpio, uranus, in tension to her achievements of Saturn. The prison term is the planets in the 12th house, being opposed to jupter in Aries in the 6th will give her the opportunity to improve her self Sun via exploring a new direction via a Spiritual revelation. She will then reinvent herself via Uranus in the first house, a death, transformation and Rebirth of a New Self Image. The saturn on the mid heaven will work hard to bring it out to the public in a dramatic way. I would say through a selfless service to the community.
2. With Sun in Liberia in the 12th she has been deceived via others about herself. With Jupiter in Aires in the sixth the tension is that the root of this deception is because of her believe systems about herself. This is deeply held in her deceiving herself due to insecurity via the T square from the Moon to Jupiter and Sun. Basically she would have a buried mental tape that would feed her unconscious messages of insecurity and on a conscious level she would work very hard to feed herself positive thoughts to overcompensate for deeper feelings of insecurities. So she would be attracted to others who would feed her with positive images of herself, even thou in many cases she would be deceived via others. She would fall into many codependent relationship that in the end would fall apart because of the false foundations they were build on. Trust would be a major erosion in her life. Her Salvation is of course to truly connect with a higher Power that she would be in communion with to give her a proper base of security for her foundation.
3. Well to repeat some of the broad strokes I mentioned above, I would say that her time now in prison may give her some space and time to be able to journey within. If she can go deeper enough into the core of herself and review her life and her family. Heal from the deep wounding of her biological Father, then go deeper into her real connection with her Solar energy to discover her Source of her great Spirit she would be able to turn around her whole life and come out of jail a new transformed human life. Ready to Truly serve her fellow Human Beings from a place of Wisdom, Compassion and Great Love. Of course there are many shades of grey between black and white, so there are various version that can occur. I think her Love for her Children will be a major factor for her to work hard to transform herself into a Truer representation of a Shinning Light of Pieces.

This is definitely the chart of a fierce athlete, competitor and someone with a large ego and larger-than-life status..
The ego, the drive and ambition are obvious from the close Sun-Jupiter opposition from Libra to Aries...everything wanted in a big way...bombastic..arrogant and glory seeking...from the 12th-6th shows it was psychological and a need she coveted..the Moon in Capricorn squares the two..cold, calculated and ruthless...tied up with the Sun-Jupiter is anything to win..esp with Saturn at the midheaven, disposited by the sun and weak in Libra..win, win, glory..determined as hell..
Saturn in Leo at the midheaven..Hitler had it too..An unparalleled rise followed by a tragic fall, too cold and self-centered..success by any measure necessary..squared by Uranus exactly..convention vs. non-convention..ambition (Saturn at MC) by unorthodoxy (Uranus at ascendant)..Uranus at Ascendant, unusual, speedy and bizarre..Mars ruling ascendant in Gemini is good for runner..fast and limber..Pluto in Libra helps..air signs good for lungs..

Marion Jones'chart says: crucial limitations of freedom, an orientation on winning and gain, and a vocation for sports and using energy at any possible level and a need to 'climb' the social ladder (at any level). It is because her birth chart is marked by these 5 items:
1. Sun opposition Jupiter This is the second tight aspect in her chart. It is the same affliction as in the charts of Floyd Landis and Rasmussen (bikers, who did not exactly follow the rules as well). It says that they want succeed no matter how, and that it might be a succes with question marks...
2. Saturn square Uranus on the cross of the chart Saturn square Uranus on the corners of the cross point at the crucial importance of the theme of limited (Saturn) freedom (Uranus) in her chart. Saturn afflicted by Uranus is frequent in the charts of those who deal with the limitations of being free. There are varioius examples: Sarah Jane Moore, the Yahoo case, and of course there is Natascha Kampusch, the kidnapped girl in Austria.
3. Pluto rising before the Sun Look at Pluto oriental (for a focus on gain and winning, strategy; not uncommon in the charts of politicians and those who are dealing with money and influence).
4. Unaspected Mars square Aries Point Look at the prominent, 'calling!' (no major aspects in sign) Mars square Aries Point! Mars without aspects points at energy, activity and drive...at any level! This chart is telling us that she just had to be an important athlete with a (overly) strong drive to win.
5. Unaspected Moon in Capricorn She has a need to be respected (and that need can be very strong).
(Sun, Moon or planets without major aspects in sign are prominent in charts).
PROGRESSIONS/TRANSITS I. That Saturn-Uranus square was being activated by transit and progression and indirectly by the solar return chart of 2007. For example: on March 7, 2008, when Marion Jones went into prison, she had a. transit Saturn semi square Sun and b. transit Uranus inconjunct Sun, perfecting in 2 days time, c. also on that day there was a solar transit sesquisquare both Saturn and Uranus d. AND transit Saturn was in a tight sextile with her progressed Uranus (sextiles and trines...sometimes they make it so easy... to go to jail) e. In her solar return chart for 2007 we see Moon conjunct the radix ascendant and Uranus, square Saturn (again: Saturn and Uranus).
II. Saturn-Midheaven is activated as well: . transit Saturn conjunct progressed MC: the disadvantages of a certain position or condition ....activating the conjunction of Saturn and natal MC! And maybe these transits were referring to the transit of Saturn square her progressed MC when she won her first golden medal in 2000
III Neptune is active a. Neptune is on the descendant of the solar return b. transit Neptune square progressed Sun: brings shame and scandall and often isolation or being a suspect. It is also a bad sign for press moments. And maybe these transits were referring to Neptune conjunct her natal IC, pointing at drugs, fake, secrets and...the first gossips...in 2000.
IV Jupiter In 2006 the Sun oppositoin Jupiter in her natal was being activated by progressed Sun inconjunct Jupiter (a disbalanced judgement). That was when she was allowed to continue her efforts, though there had been doubts about her test results.
Conclusion: her chart shows her strong ambitious drives and the trend to not stick by the rules. These trends were activated at a certain moment in time.

Hello,
First of all: Marion is very charming person (AC Scorpio). People with North Node in 1st usually do sport as long as possible, also as profession.
Ruler of her 5th Neptune (Pisces-Feet's) in 2nd shows, that she earns her money with some kind of sport with running or athletic (it could be swimming as well).
Ruler of her AC, Pluto in 12th says also that she is really able to lie, to be the first. Uranus in 1st and AC in square with Saturn in 10th are the signs there is time once, she will be guilty for that what happened to her (guilty for her fall).
Ruler of 2nd, Jupiter (6th) in opposition with Sun in 12th: there is loss of money (much money - Jupiter) because of lies. Sun (she) in 12th says, that she will be in jail one day.
Jupiter in 6th could be that she is going to help to the people one day (good healer). South Node in Taurus in 7th: with her partners she has only damage and losses (one of them is guilty that she took drugs).
Venus, ruler of 7th in 11th with only bad aspects: her partners are her friends but there is not much love from her partners (although she is beautiful woman).

This indicates that she was not a true athlete. " Actually her Mars is close enough to the 9th house cusp that most astrologers would consider it in this strongest of Gaugelin zones.

Her Sun is also at critical degree: 18'39 degree of Libra (in 12th house - critical house). Bobbie

Her Sun in Libra is in the 12th house of secrets and downfalls(and drugs)and she has a Leo(the Sun) Midheaven. Her downfall came when she experienced her Saturn(!) return. Her Sun in libra in her 12th opposition her 6th house Jupiter in Aries indicates that she was impulsively doing what others in her relationships(Libra) were doing(the drug use, Sun in Libra in 12th) but not doing what she knew was right for herself(Aries). And of course, it affected her health, or it could have, in the long run, if she had not been caught and a stop put to the steroid use.(6th house) And now she is having to serve a jail term. (12th house).

Actually that Moon in Capricorn is aspected all over the place, mostly by challenging aspects, and IMO is the biggest correlator to the ruthless ambition that led to her extreme fall from grace. In fact, it never ceases to amaze me what extremes some Cap Moons will go to for status, control, or megalomania, all the way from just marrying for money to being a top Nazi war criminal (Hitler, Goebbels, Hess, Eichmann, just to mention a few from ADB, which topped the list by far of any other Moon group in this category).

Mar, it's true that the only REALLY close aspect the Moon makes a Semi-Sq. to Neptune (32 minutes), but the Squares to Sun, Jupiter, Uranus, and Asc., as well as the Opp. to Saturn are all under 7 degrees, and the Quincunx to Mars is 3 1/4 degrees, which from my experience and knowledge are well within the orbs that most astrologers use for those aspects. Also, it seems that the Moon being in detriment in Capricorn would have a tendency to magnify the strength of those hard aspects, especially the Opp. to Sat.

The moon is 7 degrees away from a square from the Sun...I use 8 or less for the luminaries and 5 degrees away from a square with Jupiter..its also 6 degrees away from an opposition with Saturn although out of sign, likewise with Uranus at a square..it cannot be considered unaspected..it is however, Void of Course which makes it problematic..
Her ex ratted her out...notice 7th house in fall and the 7th house containing the south node and Algol..not much luck here for cheating
