Even a cursory glance at Ted's chart reveals a man of extraordinary power and complexity. He built his empire through innovation starting from the purchase of a failing TV station. Compare his chart to [was_link]Bill Gates[/was_link], [was_link]Steve Jobs[/was_link], and [was_link]Donald Trump[/was_link]. All of these men are worth billions and started with practically nothing. Can anyone find an astrological signature in common with all four self-made billionaires?

Here's an interesting footnote on Ted Turner.  
According to an Associated Press wire story released today (Apr. 16th, 2001), AP quotes Turner (interviewed in The New Yorker Magazine) as saying that he was (quote) "suicidal after the break-up of his marriage to Jane Fonda and his loss of control of Turner Broadcasting in the re-organization of AOL Time Warner. (end of quote).  
Turner told the magazine his marriage to Fonda broke up, partly because of "her decision to become a practicing Christian."  
Turner tells the magazine: "She just came home and said: I've become a Christian. Before that, she was not a religious person. That was a pretty big change for your wife of many years to tell you. That's a shock."  
Turner (according to the magazine article) is a strident "non-believer," having lost his faith after his sister, Mary Jane died of a painful disease called systemic lupus erythematosus.  
Turner went on to say: "I was taught that God was love and God was powerful. And I couldn't understand how someone so innocent should be made or allowed to suffer so."  
Now that he no longer has a direct hand in the media business he founded, Turner is pursuing environmental causes and seeking to improve life for the world's poor and reduce the nuclear threat.  
Comments:  
As Turner's story is being released by the wire services, transiting Uranus conjoins his natal Jupiter at 24 deg. Aquarius, in his third house (the media, interviews).  
In his book (Planets in Transit, p. 398-399), astrologer Rob Hand describes the transit of Uranus conjunct natal Jupiter as follows:  
"It's very hard to predict the exact effects of this transit. It is best described as a sudden change in fortune, but which way the change will go is not easy to say. With this transit, there is a danger your fortune can be "easy come, easy go."  
"Because you value your own freedom at this time, you respect the fact that it depends upon other people's ability to be free. This realization makes you more tolerant of others' lifestyles, as long as they do not interfere with yours. And you may become quite a fighter for other people's rights, as well as your own."  
Since Turner's break-up to Jane Fonda, last year, it should be noted that Turner has been unusually tight-lipped about the details of his marriage to the media.  
I believe the reason for that is because the breakup of his marriage caused Turner a great deal of personal embarrassment - that he believes he was either betrayed or mislead by Fonda in some way.  
Looking at Turner's birth chart, Mercury (the ruler of his 7th house of marriage) is located in his natal 1st house, which may suggest why he has personally been affected by the breakup of the marriage and why it has profoundly affected his state of mind.  
The transit of natal Pluto in Sagittarius in the 1st house (and conjunct his Sag. ascendant) may also have something to do with his state of depression and thoughts of suicide.  
However, Turner's alleged alcoholism and drinking problems could also have something to do with his depressed state, since alcohol (chemically speaking) is a "depressant" and tends to exacerbate any negative or "ill" feelings towards people.  
Meanwhile, the transit of Uranus may help explain Turner's current mental state and how his marriage has been affected by this state of thinking.  
It may also have impacted Turner's mental state in such a way that perhaps he could not tolerate Fonda's so-called "conversion" to Christianity, because of a widely-held view among "non-believers" that Christianity tends to stifle the mental freedom of its practitioners and tends to dominate their thoughts ?  
In the case of Jane Fonda, her natal 12th house Sun in Sagittarius is squaring her natal Neptune, while natal Sun also squares natal Saturn.  
While Fonda has been highly successful and imaginative in her show-business career (natal Mercury trine Uranus) this "t-square" is a more troublesome aspect for dealing with men and marriage, in general, as it indicates a yearning for high ideals in her relationships also, the possibility of attracting or choosing men that are "wrong" or "unsuitable" for her.  
There is also the danger of setting too high ideals, perhaps leading to self-deception and/or disillusionment with her close relationships and the chance of being deceived by her loved ones (or she may deceive them?).

Depending on whether you use Capricorn or Aquarius rising, Jane Fonda is experiencing a transit of Neptune to her natal ascendant and her natal 1st house, explaining her current interest in Christianity and religion.  
Time will tell whether Ms. Fonda's interest in religion is a permanent or transient interest ? (This is no disrespect to Ms. Fonda, but Neptune transits are not always as they seem.)  
Since we do not know Fonda, personally, only her close friends and family can confirm whether her current interest in Christ is genuine or not. However, it should be noted that women with a natal Sun-Saturn contact tend to take on new ventures in their lives, quite seriously. They seem to have an "all or nothing" mentality.  
Therefore, it is plausible that Ms. Fonda is sincere (and serious) about her religion, since natal Jupiter is also near her ascendant?  
Meanwhile, Ms. Fonda also has a mutable t-square in her chart, indicating adaptability and the ability to "move on."  
While Mr. Turner's conveniently blames the demise of his marriage because of Fonda's conversion to "Christianity," he may later regret that comment and the general public is not likely to buy that argument, either.  
Personally, I think Turner is "blowing off steam" and is frustrated because of readjustments in his career status and other stuff.  
Meanwhile, Turner's latest media venture (to buy a share in the Russian N.T.V. television network) is not likely to work out to his satisfaction. However, his future success with media projects cannot be ruled out, since transiting Uranus will eventually trine his natal Moon (28 Deg. Libra).  
This Uranus/Moon contact may also suggest a "new" and unforeseen public image, (connected with media, politics, or even an "elected" office - perhaps all three?).  
A new "serious" female relationship may also emerge out of this period, but his chances of re-marriage aren't likely to happen anytime soon.  
With Ms. Fonda, her natal Pluto in the 7th house suggests that, subconsciously, she is seeking a powerful, transformative experience with a life partner that may change her life. Her Natal Moon is also in the 7th house, so she is probably more sincere about marriage than he is.  
Her marriage with Ted Turner will undoubtedly change her attitude towards men, forever, and her life will be changed, forever, as well.  
As for Turner, he is a stubborn fellow, indeed, and personal change for him may be harder to swallow (natal Moon square Pluto?) However, he may benefit through counseling, in addition to worshipping his North American "God of materialism" (a.k.a. almighty green-back ? Smiley

At a glance 3 of the 4 men have Venus in the 12th. Also Steve has Sun/ Moon in Pisces - 1st/ 2nd house, Bill has Sun conjunct Neptune in fourth, Ted has Sun in Twelfth conjunct Venus. The hidden nature, and desire stirred by Venus combined with the dreamy nature of Neptune/ Pisces through their charts poses some food for thought.  
At my basic knowledge level in the astrological alphabet the letter 12, ( refer to Stephen Arroyo's book on Basic Interpretation), (Pisces Neptune and the twelfth house) is showing a prominent face.  
Also the 2nd/ 8th house opposition must be considered - Pisces rules two of the four 8th houses and also one of the 2nd houses. Consider that in relation to Pluto placed in 2nd, 7th,(naturally ruled by Venus), 8th, (naturally ruled by Pluto and associated with joint/ others money) and 12th, (naturally ruled by Pisces/ Neptune) and the importance of money and power as a result of that, along with Venus and Neptune wanting the best and most beautiful of everything, you end up with money hungry men, (theirs yours and mine!), who are obsessed with the power their money brings them. And who hang on to that for dear life to ensure they could never want for anything they can dream of! (Neptune dreaming)

 In Uranian Astrology, the formula for Great Wealth is Apollon + Vulcanus. In the book "Rules for Planetary Pictures - The Astrology of Tomorrow", by Witte-Lefeldt, page 387, one finds the following interpretations for that Combination:  
"Apollon + Vulcanus: Strongest success. Growing Big, Great Prosperity, Wealth, Enormous expansion."

These four self-made billionaires all have the degree of Neptune's discovery (25'52" Aquarius) prominent in their charts.  
Ted Turner has expansive Jupiter at 24 Aquarius in the Third House (telecommunications) squared by the Sun at 26 Scorpio in the Twelfth (mass media).  
Bill Gates has 25'52" Aquarius on the Eighth House cusp (he's built his empire on your, mine, and everyone else's money) opposed by Jupiter/Pluto at 27/28 Leo in the Second (money, resources - he's the man with the most money in the world?).  
The midpoint between Steve Jobs' Aquarian Mercury/Ascendant and Pisces Sun is 25 Aquarius in the First opposed by Pluto at 25 Leo in the Seventh.  
Donald Trump has phallic Mars at 26 Leo (think of the Trump Tower) in the First opposing 25 Aquarius in the Seventh.  
When planets are placed on - or in hard aspect to - the 25 degree Leo/Aquarius axis it seems that the subject has the potential to follow a path of megalomaniacal empire-building.  
I must say that these men have used the Neptune discovery degree in a very negative way. Whether Turner's donation of one billion dollars to the UN is based on "philanthropy" or "self-interest" (or a bit of both) remains open to debate. These men have made obscene amounts of money out of the public. They have more money than many (most?) governments in the world. I would rather see the US government (and other governments) highly tax the earnings of these men so that the US people could have more democratic say in where the enormous profits of these men go - the redistribution of this wealth to the poor would be a way more positive use of the Neptune discovery degree.  
But don't hold your breath waiting for it to happen...

I really like Ted. It's so enjoyable to listen to him express himself on TV. It makes sense he has a fun, generous, broad-minded, Sagittarian Ascendant and that the Ruler of that Asc. and the chart, Jupiter, is in the 2nd house of making money (Where the Asc. is shows where we really want to be.), conjunct the 3rd house of communications.
Venus (charm) is closely conjunct his Sun (inner self), and of course we're not surprised. But Saturn in the 4th makes a very close Sesquisquare to that Sun, and we feel not only the seriousness and responsibility he experienced in his growing up years but also the sadness he must have felt with the loss of his father to suicide. Mercury in Sagittarius in the 1st is cooking like crazy too, not only showing what a broad expansive mind that is a huge part of his innate persona, but also the innovation, originality, progressive thinking triggered by the close quincunx to Uranus. That Uranus also makes an even closer quincunx to the MC, reiterating the cutting edge Uranian vision he brought to the world.
As if that weren't enough, his charitable spirit and boundless philanthropy is doing all it possibly can to help heal and transform the world (Sun and Venus in Scorpio in the 12th).

In analysing the charts of self-made billionaire businesspeople the second house and its ruler, Venus, are of primary importance and to a lesser extent the planets indicating business ability, which include Mercury, Mars and Saturn and their respective houses. Using only the four charts and lacking a control group, the findings may lack proof and may not be that accurate. They are also limited to this site. Nevertheless, we can find patterns that set self-made billionaires apart from everyone else. Without exception, the four billionaires have either Jupiter or Neptune in the second house. This is an obvious indicator of wealth. Using Placidus, Turner's Jupiter falls in the second house. Both Jupiter and Neptune promise something big (Neptune is cosmos which is infinite). In the second house it's money, however it is not conclusive of exceptional business ability that promises huge sums of money as an afflicted Jupiter or Neptune (it is in all charts) can result in extravagance or confusion about personal finances, which also leads to overspending. Venus holds the answer as to the clarity about finances. With exception of Turner's chart, the other billionaires have Saturn aspecting Venus providing a restraint of expenses to useful things. Saturn also means fear and it is interesting to note that Saturn's aspects to Venus are not hard. There are two conjunctions and a sextile. These people are definitely not afraid to invest money in their ventures as long as the risk is calculated and kept under control (Saturn). In Turner's case, Venus is in the twelfth house, which also provides a restraining effect. Moreover his Venus receives a trine from his Pluto, which rules the twelfth house Venus is in. With the exception of Donald Trump's chart the ruler of the second house is always found two houses ahead, in the fourth house. The sign Cancer (ruler of the fourth house) is noted for business ability, so these are not the charts of people who have inherited their fortune or won in the lottery. Also because the fourth house is the third house from the second, we could infer that much of what they earn (second) depends (house ruler) on strategy and communication (both Mercury and third house functions). But why does Donald Trump not have the same configuration when his real estate business is based on negotiations? One possibility could be because his second house ruler, Mercury (communications), occupies Cancer, the natural sign of the fourth house while the moon is in the fifth, the second house from his fourth (real estate). Another could be because Pluto, the ruler of his fourth house is loosely conjunct his ascendant which is trined by the moon in the fifth. Because Pluto is in the eleventh house from the second, profitable communications depend largely on his friends (he was noted to say that he makes friends with those he conducts business with and deems those who do not respect him unworthy of dealing with him). Two of the billionaires (Turner and Jobs) have the ruler of the fourth house in the tenth implicating that their business of choice has much influence on the profit they make through entrepreneurship. The discussion about the third house brings us to Mercury. With exception of Donald Trump, the billionaires have Mercury in fire or air signs and with exception of Bill Gates in fire or air houses. There is no Mercury in earth signs or houses as we might have expected. Among the entrepreneurs and CEOs in this site only Jack Welch has Mercury in the tenth house. Mercury is also always afflicted with two of the entrepreneurs having a Mercury-Neptune affliction. Aside from strategy, creativity and visionary ability also play a big role in becoming rich. The four charts show an aspect of the sun to Neptune, which is a sign of both. Finally, excluding Donald Trump, the billionaires have configurations of severe afflictions like t-squares and grand crosses, signs of motivation to succeed as well as the hard times they have been through forcing them to learn from their failures. This however does not mean that Donald Trump has not been through difficulties in business but that learning comes easier to him perhaps through others rather than through himself, thus he may view business problems as not that difficult. He once quoted that he never failed in his career. The lack of configurations of afflictions could be the evidence.
