• Where do you find high IQ in his chart?
 • His mega-success was confined to a couple of years. What was going on in his chart in 1986?
 • Everyone loves this guy. Where do we find his easy going universal appeal?

Hi
lots of interesting comments,
excuse me for changing the questions, but I am puzzled about the following:
"He had been visible in commercials for Subaru's sport utility station wagon over these last few years"
Subaru is the japanese name for the Pleiades, that's why the logo of that car brand is a group of stars: the Pleiades.
Progressed Mercury ruler of his MC is at 27 to 28 Scorpio, opposing the degree of Subaru ( Pleiades )
And...he is working for Subaru !!!

Where do you find high IQ in Paul Hogan's chart? IQ is an acronym for Intelligence Quotient. Astrologically, intelligence is associated with the Air element, therefore expect a prominent quotient of Air Signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius), Air Planets (Mercury, Uranus) and Air Houses (Third, Seventh, Eleventh), and a significant placement of the degree of the discovery of Uranus (24 Gemini).
Paul Hogan has all Planets, Nodes, Air House cusps and Chart Angles in Air Signs (Venus, Mars, NNode, 3rd, 7th, 11th cusps); disposited by planets in Air Signs (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Pluto, Moon, SNode, Ascendant); or both in Air Signs AND disposited by a planet in an Air Sign (Sun, Mercury, Descendant) - except for Chiron and Neptune which are both (along with the IC & MC they rule) aspected by both of the Air Planets (Mercury, Uranus). Note also, that these Air planets - Uranus (in Taurus) and Mercury (in Libra) - are separated by a quincunx and both in aspect to their dispositor, Venus in Airy Libra. Moreover, the Pluto/Moon conjunction (disposited by Sun in Libra) is placed at the midpoint between the Air planets, Uranus and Mercury. Midpoints and dispositions involving the luminaries tend to personalize planets - and here the Airy zest in the chart overall is thus more exaggerated. A Grand Trine operates from the angular 24 Gemini degree (on Descendant, in Airy Seventh) to the Venus/Mercury conjunction (in the airy Eleventh in airy Libra) to the cusp of the Third House (ruled and trined by Mercury). So, throw a shrimp on the barbie but don't "come the raw prawn" with Hoges!
It's not just the Libra stellium with Venus prominent in that sign (as above) that makes Everyone (?!) love "Hoges." He projects a quintessential stereotype of "Ocker" (read: Australian) masculinity that has universal (?!) appeal because he has tapped into the links between his chart and that for Australia (Federation ceremony: 01 January 1901 13:36 AEST Sydney). Hoges' Nodal axis crosses the Ascendant-Descendant axis of the Australian chart, with his Saturn/SNode in Aries on Australia's Ascendant. His NNode in Libra on Australia's Descendant allows him to project himself to the world as a friendly easy-going iconographic symbol of Australiana. His Mars is on Australia's MC. Australia's Mars is on his MC. Australia's Jupiter in Sagittarius conjuncts Hoges' Ascendant. Australia's Sun aspects both his luminaries. You couldn't ask for better contacts than that to popularly symbolize the masculinity of a nation.
In 1986 at 47-years-old, his mega-successful popularity occurred as his Jupiter (2 Aries) had progressed (+47 degrees) to conjunct Australia's Moon (20 Taurus) which is unaspected except for a wide trine from Mars (the ruler of Australia's Aries Ascendant). Hoges' Mars had meanwhile progressed to 22 Capricorn to form a trine with Australia's Moon...
Funnily enough, some Australians (like me) find him an odd choice to represent Australia - as he has lived in the USA for many years ... and well, all that Crocodile-wrestling seems a bit outdated (cringe!). However, he's popped out of the blue and with Australia's Jupiter in Sagittarius on his Ascendant, he remains a popular export. Curiously, the Sydney Harbour Bridge (or "Coathanger") closely resembles the glyph for Libra, and one of the first places Hoges exercised his Libra Stellium was as a painter on The Bridge - before he broke into television (and later film) comedies. We agree with Bill that Hogan's high IQ relates to Mercury (opposite Saturn) in rational Libra and ruler Jupiter in Aries (trine Leo Pluto/Moon opposite Aquarius Mars), but the question is somewhat more complex. The rational air signs give insightful (Aquarius) meaning to oral/written communication (Gemini), and water signs give intuition, as when a low-level employee reads visitor intentions from body language which the Ph.D. boss completely misses. This intuitive animal (from Latin "anima"= soul or perispirit) intelligence is what Crocodile Dundee is all about, as Hogan's Scorpio-sharp eighth-house Leo Moon conjunct twelfth-house (of large animals) ruler Pluto gave his character both an Outback sixth-sense and NYC street-smarts. Astrologically, the Moon corresponds to the mind, and is the best candidate for "g" (see below).
To digress a bit on the always controversial concept of IQ, the all-purpose positivist pundit Stephen Jay Gould denies not only the existence of a single general intelligence factor "g" (posited by Spearman in l904, and related to the brain's neuro-biological, electrochemical mental energy potential), but even that IQ tests measure "a real property in the head". Since Thurstone in the l930's, the tendency has been to identify multiple factors of intelligence such as logical-mathematical, verbal-linguistic, visual-spatial, musical, naturalist, intrapersonal, interpersonal, etc. But do we really need a kinesthetic IQ test to know who can dance the Macarena?
Aquarius-Asc. psychologist Hans Eysenck was open to astrology defining parameters in this debate. Saturn-Mercury aspects, for example, accumulate rational knowledge over time, and relate specifically to disciplined, mathematical intelligence (e.g., Einstein). Verbal-linguistic intelligence also relates to Mercury, und so weiter, but the very fact that most IQ scores reflect English-language proficiency leads critics to favor "culture-free" tests. The is the p.c. flip side of the same coin from Reagan's old saw that liberals do in fact know more than the rest of us, only 90% isn't true. IMHO, knocking liberals, libertarians, "The Bell Curve", nerds, and WASP-b(i)ased culture in general won't stop the rise of the Mandarin class in our brave, new, virtual world.
The Rodden rating system is a big improvement in astrology research, and could profitably include "by whom" when saying a chart is rectified ("Old-File" was the mark of quality in the Astro-Data series). With this proviso, the 9:06 AM anonymously-rectified birth-time for Paul Hogan does appear correct. In l986, Uranus (movies) was transiting the Sag. ascendant, and also triggered the cerebral hemorrhage. Natal Uranus is not well-aspected, being part of two yods. Ruling the seventh house of marriage, Mercury in Libra (sign of marriage) indicates the possibility of two spouses, including a younger one. Hogan's converse Asc. hit natal Mercury (conjunct Arcturus) in l986, bringing recognition for having written Crocodile Dundee, in which he starred with Linda Kozlowski. His progressed MC hit Mercury in l990, when he married Linda.
Libra is a naturally likeable sign, and as stated Sag.'s upbeat ruler Jupiter trines the Moon, increasing Hogan's popularity.

1. Paul Hogan's high IQ could be given by love from Mercury with Venus on his natal chart shining together against Saturn rays. And this rayway is crossed by the communication of North and South Node expressions.
2. In early 1986 there was a meeting and discussion very similar to Paul Hogan's natal chart situation: There were the Sun, Mercury and Venus together (not in Libra, but) in Capricorn Club starting new urging and events. They came around some natal positions after this party; on April 22nd each of them had a date: Mercury met natal Jupiter, the Sun met natal Saturn and Venus met natal Uranus. Something nice, something not, but very interesting way. It's interesting too, that on meeting on the May around 26th, the Sun had speech with Mercury, Lilith and Chiron in Gemini (without Venus and that it is) with Saturn opposite. Maybe this discussion, which place were squared to natal Lilith on both ends, opened the door for Saturn's natal-chart influence from Aries?
3. Paul Hogan's natal Moon is in the sign of Leo giving him its best. Mercury and Venus; happy together in Libra with their good influence to the Sun in Libra too; make him adorable and charming for most. (And of course, how many Libra/Scorpio ascendant people without appeal do you know?)

IQ: House III in Aquarius. Ruler Uranus in Taurus in VI trine Neptune X: his intuition (Uranus) is help by his inspiration (Neptune). His goal concern his work (VI-X). Big evolution (Uranus). Able to grab the exceptional luck who can pass to ameliorate his destiny. Mars in Aquarius III (Placidus): * Jupiter trine Sun: aspect who give him a lot of ambition. Succeed.
Mercury in Hse XI, (the house of Aquarius) conj. Venus sextile Asc. opposite Saturn: Venus here change the Mercure tonality: his intelligence is effect by sensibility (Venus). Sextile Asc.: He likes learn, he is curious, charming. Mercure/Venus opp. Saturne: this is the aspect who can gave him a high IQ, even in opposition. It is just he don't have a big nervous resistance and a lot of delay, difficulties. He is always thinking, the brain never take a rest. The nervous system is not well balance.
Hse III in Aquarius, Mercury in Hse XI of Aquarius in Libra: I understand now why he is able to be a screenwriter (Uranus, Aquarius rule the cinema!)
At the base, he have not an intellectual nature: Fire-Card instead of Air-Water. (0 in water sign gaves him difficulty to relax.) But I think Uranus/ Neptune, Mercury/Saturn, Mars/Sun/Jupiter are the responsible for his high IQ. Original screenplay? Uranus/Mercure!

>>Where do you find high IQ in his chart?<<
I don't think you can sum it up in a simple, or single 'this is it' manner, but, I think there are a few things that might add up to a high IQ. We won't mention EQ, with the absence of water! Assuming the 20Sag ascendant is correct, it makes hard aspects to the mars in Aquarius 3rd/moon opposition. The mercury opposite saturn, which in astrology literature, is sometimes thought of as feeble minded, may have to be revised, haha. Also, there are a number of quintile related aspects, associated with talent, and the uranus/sun quintile should fill the bill, with the biquintiles to pluto in between. Is that enough reasons to have a high IQ? You're asking the wrong intellect, haha!
>>His mega-success was confined to a couple of years. What was going on in his chart in 1986? <<
Everything assumes a correct rectified chart. Progressed sun square the midheaven {exact}. Progressed ascendant square saturn {exact}. Progressed venus hard aspecting the mars/moon oppostion {exact}. Perhaps the most telling indicator, is what the hamburg school astrologers use to rely on outstanding success, that being the jupiter/pluto axis. The progressed sun lines up to fill out a grand trine with them, and is exactly at the midpoint of prog jup/pluto at this time.
>>Everyone loves this guy. Where do we find his easy going universal appeal?<<
A splash chart has a certain amount of universal appeal, but there are a bunch of other factors here which I won't bore you with. Leave it at that. G'day.

Mercury [in triplicity] sextiles his ascendant (contacts of mercury to the ascendant is one indication of intelligence). Also, mercury's dispositor venus is in dignity in libra AND conjunct his mercury. All together this would indicate a very intelligent (and charming) person.

Some people are born with all the tools. Neptune at the midheaven and the Moon conj Pluto in the eigth house in Leo opposite Mars. This primitive power is what we all would like to have.

Uranian Astrology and midpoint work with the 4th and 16th harmonic charts, using very small orbs yield the following analysis:
1. Where do you find high IQ in his chart?
One axis for "The active brain" or "Working processes in the brain" is the Moon/Mars Axis. In Hogan's chart one finds:
Moon = (opp.) Mars = Sun (The man's active brain) = Neptune/Pluto (The supernatural, mysticism, a progressive spiritual evolution, highly active imagination and fantasy..)= Mercury/Jupiter (A good and constructive intellect, wealth of ideas, sound common sense, an active mind) = Mars/Asc = Moon/Asc
Another axis which is described as "the divine spark in a man" or "one's mental plane" is the Mc/Poseidon axis:
Mc/Poseidon = Vulcanus (To have a tremendous intellect) = Pluto (Cosmic concepts)= As/Node (gain higher understanding through contacts with acquaintances) = Sun/Uranus (A revolutionary spirit, a progressive mind)= Moon/Saturn (Conscientiousness, an interest in serious mental matters, Education) = Moon/apollon (Many hours, big brain)
The axis for "one's intellect" is the Mercury/Jupiter axis. In this chart we even find Mercury=Jupiter equal both Sun/Moon and Mc/Asc midpoints, a major and very prominent axis in the chart, a central one to his personality:
Mercury = Jupiter = Asc/Sun (seeking mental or intellectual stimuli) = Asc/Admetos (other people are mentally inferior to the native and are jealous)= Venus/Apollon (To be known to many, to speak to many, to be acquainted with many. Acquaintances with scientists of language or of the brain, or with people who speak foreign languages) = Jupiter/Kronos (Master of glib tongue, fortunate management of thoughts) = Jupiter/Zeus (Fortunate creative thoughts) = Sun/Mars (The winner) = Sun/Moon (daily and hourly)= Mars/Admetos (specialism) = Kronos/Poseidon (Highmindedness and intellectual greatness of mind. The wise man. The man who shows his mental ability and is far above the average) = Moon/Admetos (excluded from the public, in camera, Inner contemplation) = Venus/Saturn = Zeus/Poseidon (Fertile mind, Creative mentality, mental leadership)= Mc/Asc (One's motivation and resource) = Mc/Vulcanus (A powerful thought process, Flexible and mobile thinking)= Cupido/Zeus (artistic creation)
A third axis is Mc/Mercury, "One's own thinking":
Mc/Mercury = Mars/Poseidon = Moon/Poseidon = Uranus/Pluto = Mars/Uranus = Neptune/Kronos = Asc/Uranus = Asc/Poseidon = Jupiter/Neptune = Sun/Apollon
2. His mega-success was confined to a couple of years. What was going on in his chart in 1986?
i. Progressed Venus hit his natal Asc (if TOB is accurate).
ii. Progressed Sun is square natal Mc. ( " ).
iii. The progressed Moon/Saturn conjunction opposite Mercury (7th ruler) may have marked his divorce, or thoughts of divorce.
iv. Solar arc directed Moon/Mars opposition hit natal Neptune (cerebral hemorrhage).
v. Solar arc Directed Apllon (success, fame, honour ) hit natal NNode (connections).
vi. Transits : a. Transit Uranus/Kronos opposition aligns with his natal Asc/Desc (Great excitement caused by the native) and Progressed Venus (To enjoy suddenly great popularity) . b. Transit Mars-Vulcanus-Apollon square aligned with his Sun (Strongest success in one's activity. Prosperity and wealth through one's activity). c. Transit Pluto conjunction formed a T-square with his natal Moon/Mars opposition, semisquare his Asc (both divorce and cerebral hemorrhage). d. Transit Neptune square natal Jupiter (asc ruler) - Success and fortune through the cinema, maybe.
3. Everyone loves this guy. Where do we find his easy going universal appeal?
Aries Point (16th harmonic) = Venus = Sun/Node (loved by the public. Love relationship with the public)

I found it fascinating to read that Paul Hogan is reputed to be somewhat shy, yet has a Sag Rising! I noticed also, that he has Moon/Pluto Conjunct, in the 8th House. This was very interesting to me, as my Mother has Sag rising, Sun-in-Sag in the 1st House, Moon/Pluto conjunct in the 8th, and is also unpredictably shy.
Thank you for this wonderful feature on your website. I feel that I learn something new, every time I click on.

It is difficult to say anything with confidence when the birth data is so open to question. One could argue that if he were born earlier, Hogan would have a Scorpio Ascendant with either a Cancer or Leo Midheaven. Scorpio rising would be more consistent with one who identifies himself as "crocodile," since Scorpio rules reptilian creatures. A Cancer Midheaven could account for his easygoing public persona, but then again a Leo Midheaven would be consistent with his dramatic ability. If he were born closer to 7 a.m., then secondary progressed Venus would have crossed his natal Ascendant at the time of his early marriage in 1958. Without an accurate birth time, further comments on the chart would be mostly pure speculation.

1. High IQ -- I would attribute this to a very strong 11th House Mercury in Libra ... but also to the very powerful Jupiter in Aries ... this man is very broad-minded and thinks big ... thinks fast ... the Aquarian Mars certainly makes him very versatile...
2. 1986 -- Saturn was making some pretty exciting aspects to his Jupiter-Moon/Pluto-Mars combination ... strong trines and sextiles from the beginning of Sagittarius and in his 12th ... Saturn = practical success when in a good pattern ... he has Sagittarius rising, and Jupiter very powerful to begin with, and Saturn added to the pattern just adds more bigness ... the fire components shout "look at me!!" he became a world-famous personality during that year ... Saturn turned retrograde a couple of times, so the aspects he formed were in all year and part of the next, continued to strike positive aspects to other parts of his chart the next year ... Uranus this whole time was on his ascendant ... he was indeed making great leaps and fast changes ... some of these may not be very healthy in my opinion ... look at the squares being cast by these two planets with his Neptune during that year ... he is likely to have been guided by some idealism in some respects ... false imagery ... could have lost some bearings in reality...
3. Universal appeal -- the strong air sign placements - Mars, Sun and strong Mercury not only make him smart and versatile, he can communicate with anyone ... people are interested in him because he is interested in them ... the strong Jupiter and fire signs Aries and Leo give him lots of motivation and daring ... is truly a freewheeler ... delightful personality ... Jupiter rules his first house and part of his 12th ... if he were a villain, people would still root for him because he represents freedom of action ... never a dull moment...

In regards to the birth time. Something tells me to try a little bit later, and put late Sagittarius to early Capricorn on the ascendant with Neptune closer to the mc.

I have enjoyed your Crocodile Dundee movies and some of the other movies you have been in I can't find the one Almost and Angel on tape so I had to tape it and there is another one I have also that you are in it but right off hand I can't think of the title but I do really enjoy your movies. I have been into action packed movies for quite sometime now yours are not that action packed but they have enough action in them where I like them. I'm 57 years old and a woman I do enjoy those action pack movies come out. Well take care down under a fan

Everyone would like to be related to someone famous, but I was once told that Paul Hogan spoke of his convict ancester by the name of ? Gerraghty. My great-great-grandfather was Patrick Gerraghty, who arrived in Australia in 1815 as a convict on the ship "Canada" from Ireland and I was wondering if we might be related.
