Discussion about
George Harrison, born 24 February 1943 at 11:42 PM in Liverpool

This discussion is imported from the  comment board on the  previous astrodatabank.com website.

According to his family, George Harrison "left this world as he lived in it, conscious of God, fearless of death, and at peace, surrounded by family and friends. He often said, 'Everything else can wait, but the search for God cannot wait; love one another.'"
How did he maintain such a focus despite the great distractions of fame and fortune? We featured George and his chart two years ago when the knife-wielding intruder broke into his home. Let us reexamine the chart to see what made him a man who was so thirsty for spiritual livelihood.

George has his Sun in Pisces and his Sun-ruler, Neptune, in the 12th house and part of a grand trine with Mercury and Saturn & Uranus, so I guess you can say he is rather spiritually oriented. One wonders how he ever survived the madness associated with the Beatles. Its also understandable that he relishes his privacy.
The attack took place when Mars was opposing his N. Node and Chiron ( talk about a literal wounding!) and moving to conjunct and square his Uranus and Saturn in the 8th. T. Saturn in the 7th of open enemies is squaring his Pluto and M.C. bringing a negative kind of recognition. T. Moon in the 12th of secret enemies squares natal Jupiter. T. Jupiter in the 6th, opposing the Ascendant and trining natal Chiron and the N. Node must have provided some kind of protection and, as it squares natal Mars, the courage and stamina to fight off his attacker (with the help of his wife, of course).

Well, first of all, just looking in his ninth house tells us about his spirituality. Jupiter in the exalted sign of Cancer provides him a great capacity to hold an abundance of spiritual beliefs, particularly beliefs originating from foreign lands. Also, I noticed that he has Venus in the exalted sign of Pisces, indicating a deep, self-sacrificing love, as well as having Neptune in its own mystical twelfth house. That shows us that he prefers to lead a very secluded lifestyle.

I thank you very much for the wonderful service you are doing for astrology and astrologers. I have pondered George Harrison's chart and the transits for the attack. The most significant transit I see is that of the North Node over his Pluto on his Midheaven. He is so spiritual that the N.Node transit of his Pluto 'coincided' with the conjunction of Chiron and Pluto in the sky that day. It took us back to the murder of John Lennon so long ago (nineteen years - about one nodal cycle) and the deep sorrow that dark event brought. John was a great teacher for his fans, and George may still become one himself. The breach of his home is signified by Vesta, the goddess of home and hearth and the protection thereof to his fourth house Sun. The fact that Mars was opposing his natal N. Node / Chiron conjunction describes the stealthy attack after careful planning. Mars in Aquarius can be so clever in his campaigns. The N. Node plays a very prominent role in this ghastly episode in his life, and may help him to realize his potential ability to lead or help lead a movement, either spiritual or emotional, they're all one. Thanks again!

*** He was attacked recently by a knife-wielding, voice-hearing lunatic. This can be found in his Transits-to-Progressions:
Cast the secondary Progressed chart on the 90 degree dial, on the inner wheel, with the transits on the outer wheel (all for 30-Dec-1999), and notice:
1. Progressed Neptune Rx. ,Progressed Ascendant and Pr. Mars/Saturn midpoint are on the "ARIES AXIS" (aka "world axis", the native in the public eye.). Transit Uranus and transit Mars make exact hard aspects to the Aries Axis, thereby triggering the Progressed configuration.
ARIES POINT = tr Uranus = tr Mars = Pr Neptune = Pr Asc = Pr Mars/Saturn "Being the victim of Sudden violent attack by other people, who are in a confused psychic state. Fighting for survival and suffering injury by others, an event for the whole world to hear about."
2. Progressed Uranus = Progressed Jupiter = Pr. Node = Pr. (Venus/Pluto = Moon/Mars) = transit Saturn
The Uranus/Jupiter combination is known as "Thank the Lord" configuration, for it often marks a release of strain or tension from which the native suffered. The Node=Venus/Pluto=Moon/Mars configuration marks the connection to a fanatic fan or a person with a fanatic artistic inclination or obsession that is in a state of expressing his/her excitement, intense emotions, impulsiveness, and whose acts are directed by the unconscious.
3. Progressed Moon exactly Opposite natal Uranus in the 8th (= Pr. Mc/Saturn).
Moon=Uranus=Mc/Saturn is a configuration that marks a state of fear or anxiety, an emotional shock or crisis.
4. Progressed Mc on the Cusp of the natal 12th of illness and sorrow. Transit Sun is exactly square Progressed Mc.
5. Transit Node is on natal and Pr. Pluto.= pr (Node/Jupiter = Node/Uranus = Mc/Moon = Saturn/Neptune = Aries/Saturn) "Exciting or upsetting (yet fortunate) experiences shared together with other people. Emotional shock or upheavals. Coming in contact with sick and suffering people. A period of retention in hospital. A serious illness. Beginning of a separation."
7. Transit Jupiter = Pr. Saturn = Pr Sun/Mars "Difficulties and obstacles in profession or vocation, defeat in a fight, weakness." Yet transit Jupiter on this progressed configuration, once again marks the fortunate outcome.
**To find his breakthrough as a Beatle in 1968 when he penned his first (and only) major hits for the Beatles: "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something" for the Abby Road album (released 9/28/1969), We cast his secondary progressions chart for 16-Feb-1968 and immediately notice the following:
1. A Progressed Full Moon exactly conjunct Progressed Neptune at 0 degrees Libra (aka "Aries Axis" or "world axis", showing "The native in the public eye"). The Pr. "full Moon" is exactly TRINE natal Uranus. The Progressed Sun has just passed Natal Venus, and is bi-quintile the natal North Node. Progressed North Node is Bi-Quintile natal Venus. Transit Mars at 0 Aries is triggering this Progressed Full Moon configuration, which marks the climax ( for the whole world to see) of the native's artistic and musical creativity and ability.
2. Progressed Jupiter is direct, on natal retrograde Jupiter (15+ deg Cancer), just coming out of its shadow by progression.
3. Progressed Ascendant is at 15 degrees Scorpio, The "Aries Axis", exactly Trine natal and Progressed Jupiter.
4. Progressed Venus is exactly opposite natal Moon cnj. the natal Ascendant. "Expressing one's musical talent in association with others and winning appreciation."
5. Progressed Mars is on natal Mercury, cnj. the natal IC. "achievement of success through the spirit of enterprise and the power of determination."
6. Progressed Pluto is making an exact aspect of the 32nd harmonics to natal Neptune. This is a supernatural configuration also marking a high degree of sensitiveness.
7. Progressed Mc is almost exactly opposite natal Sun. The Progressed MC also makes an exact aspect of the 7th Harmonic to the 0 Aries (World axis).
There are more indications, but the above list is more than enough.

Using the Sidereal Lunar Return for the attack (or it's equivalent in the "precessed" tropical return) we find Mars, Saturn and Uranus angular. Saturn at the 7th cusp by 25min, Uranus and Mars square the Asc. by 1deg33min and 5deg58min respectively. The return chart sets up on Dec. 4th and brings the aforementioned Mars/Saturn/Uranus to the natal Mercury/Pluto opposition. Actually the Mars/Node is almost precisely on the natal Pluto, while Saturn squares and Uranus conjuncts the natal Merc. The return chart is calculated for birthplace and is based on the 11:42 PM natal chart.
At the time of the attack at Henley on Thames on Dec 30th @ 3:30 am, the lunar return angles are almost precisely duplicated by the event angles. The ascendants of the two charts are only 11 minutes different while the MC's are off by less than 2 degrees. The natal nodes are also picked up by the lunar return MC/IC. The transiting Mars therefore comes not only to conjoin the natal South Node for the event but conjuncts the return and event IC.
The lunar return Venus comes up within 2 deg of the natal Asc while transiting and return Jupiter sit at the natal Desc. This was certainly one reason why he was protected. A client of mine had surgery last April when the transiting Mars/Saturn/Uranus picked up her natal Mercury. She had one lung removed. Since George Harrison's natal Mercury is conjunct the IC, Saturn's precise square (by 13 minutes) showed the injury to the lung in the home. Natal Mercury appeared on angles in the lunar return (square Asc) while Saturn made it's partile aspect, increasing the possibility for some type of trouble.

I used the Sidereal Equal House system. I used the 9th Harmonic charts in both the natal and the event chart. For starters, George's natal Mercury (ruler of 12th of secet enemies and loss) is currently being squared by transitting Saturn in it's fall, from his 7th house, an anti-life house. Being stationary, Saturn is extra powerful. That lasts a long time, so what pinpoints the event to a specific moment? There's much going on. I'll make a list:
Mars was transitting natal Ketu (Rahu and Ketu considered prime malefics in Hindu system).
The transitting (event chart) Asc, Sun, and Mercury were all in Sag, the sign of George's natal and navamsa (9th harmonic) Mars.
In the trans. navamsa Asc, Rahu and Mars are in Libra, sign of George's natal Asc.
Event chart Pluto in Scorpio (also in navamsa of event chart) was conjunct his navamsa Asc. . Event Moon in natal 12th.
Event navamsa Moon on natal Rahu.
Mars, Saturn, Pluto, and Nodes seem to be the culprits. Here are a multitude of indications of threats to the physical body. So what spared him? Perhaps it was Jupiter, which was throwing a full aspect by transit to his natal Asc and Moon. Also, his natal chart looks pretty good for longevity as Asc and 8th house ruler Venus is in its exaltation in Pisces. Natal Jupiter throws a full aspect to the Asc, Sun and Moon (according to Vedic system).

Mars visiting the South Node at the time of the attack would imply a karmic factor, the roots of which may well lie in another lifetime. Uranus' transit through the fourth house suggests that unexpected events are likely to occur at home. This transit is usually a powerful wake up call spurring soul searching and involvement with community. Add Neptune and we have quite an interesting mix. What more does George have to say? I would also point out the wide square of Mars to the Moon, an indicator of the potential for violence. The transiting North Node conjunct natal Pluto, which in turn opposes Mercury suggests an invitation, perhaps subconscious, to indeed have one's attitudes shaken. 1968 featured the conjunction of transiting Uranus with George's natal Neptune, inspiring creativity and the quest for spiritual knowledge. Transiting Jupiter's opposition to George's Sun increased the chances for a major breakthrough.

The first things I noticed: Angular Moon, Mercury, and Pluto (Note: I created my own version of Harrison's chart, using Campanus houses). Although not in a "T-Square" formation, they will act like T-Square with the Moon squaring a Mercury-Pluto opposition.
Second was the Yod -- Moon Inconjuncting Venus and Uranus, the latter two forming a sextile. Harrison's fellow rocker Jimmy Page also has a Venus-Uranus aspect, and I'd love to find out how many other rock musicians do, too!
Harrison also has Sun Trine Moon, but not very tightly -- Harrison's tightest Sun aspect is Sun Inconjunct Pluto, which will give him some Scorpio tendencies. He also has Neptune on his Sun-Moon Midpoint, giving him Pisces tendencies as well (Tropicalists will say it's because he's a Pisces, but I've found that anyone with a planet on the Sun-Moon midpoint will have many of the traits of the "sign" that planet rules).
Harrison's 1968 Sidereal Solar Return (SSR, using London, the Beatles' base of operation) has his Lunar Nodes only a few degrees away from the Ascendant & Descendant. Mercury, the communication planet, sextiles the North Node. His SSR Moon squared the Ascendant and Descendant, and the Sun sits on the Venus-Mars midpoint (Venus and Mars, btw, form a sextile) There's also a "yod" in the SSR, with the Ascendant as the focal point; Uranus and Neptune are the sextiling planets. Harrison's natal Moon, close to his natal Ascendant, was the focal point of the natal yod; in the 1968 SSR, it aspects all points in the SSR yod. The 1968 SSR yod gives new strength to planets which were strong in Harrison's natal chart -- the Moon, Uranus, Neptune, and also involves the Ascendant. The "1968 model" Harrison was thus much like his "original self" -- perhaps that's why he wrote such great music that year.

Since posting the above remarks on George Harrison's Venus-Uranus sextile, and mentioning Jimmy Page's Venus-Uranus aspect, I've looked up some other rock musicians charts - Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Alice Cooper, and Roger Daltry - and found that they tended to have Venus-Uranus aspects. The one who didn't - Eric Clapton - did, however, have a foreground Venus and an almost partile Sun Square Uranus.
Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendirx both have Venus opposite Uranus (Page's Uranus conjuncts Mars; Hendrix's Venus is part of a triple conjunction with the Sun and Mercury); Alice Cooper has a Moon-Venus-Uranus T-Square; Roger Daltry has Venus Trine Uranus.

Examining the chart of George Harrison with the Systems Approach to Vedic Astrology, we find a Libra rising, which gives a magnetic personality, especially if Venus is strong. As Venus is exalted in the 6th house, near the most effective point of the house, Mr. Harrison is quite accomplished in the arts, and may have more fixity in approach than is apparent. With a less strong Venus, this placement would tend to combativeness. The strength of Venus protects from succumbing to illness (late 1960s, mid 1980s). Moreover, with the functional malefic, Mercury, unafflicted and well placed in the fourth house, the health and married life are further strengthened. With the Moon on the most effective point of the 1st house, aspecting the 7th house of mate and foreign journeys, he is fortunate with respect to mother, career and mate (early 1970s, late 1980s). This would be slightly offset by the weak Mars, the ruler of the 7th house, which is in the 3rd house, indicating a slight set-backs in life in relation to spouse A defining moment in his life was his meeting John Lennon in 1958, during the very strong sub-period of the Moon. His dynamism at this time would have enabled him to seal this fortunate association, and sustained it during the fame of the Beatles period, which could have been an internally difficult period for him. His badly placed Saturn in the 8th house, which is also debilitated in the Navamsa chart, indicates difficulties in academic pursuits and periods of lack of mental peace (early Beatles years, and second half of 1970s).
The chart reveals how George was more in the shadow as a Beatle, compared to the incredible fame of Paul McCartney and John Lennon. Nevertheless these "big brothers" helped him, due to his strong 11th ruler, Sun, being favourably placed in the 5th house - as it indicates well placed friends, government or elder brothers helpful to the fulfillment of his dreams. With the Moon's nodes near the 11th and 5th house most effective points, there would be upheavals in the life, possibly sudden events (Ketu) disturbing the mental peace (5th house) or his own person (1st), as well as slow-onset problems (Rahu) relating to spouse (7th house).
The Ketu period (all of 1998) would have been difficult. Health and opposition (6th house) issues would be important during the Venus sub-period (1999-), but no permanent damage results. However, the coming Sun and Moon period, which begin in the autumn of 2001 and last into 2004, will be far more enjoyable periods.

I would just like to make some observations on the astrology of George's death on Thursday, Nov. 29 at about 1:30 PM in Los Angeles, CA.(Source: Television News. Transiting Moon and Venus formed a grand cross with George's North Node/Chiron conjunction. Secondary progressed Mars was conjunct his natal Sun and inconjunct natal Pluto, while tertiary progressed Mars was sesquiquadrate natal Pluto. In his relocated chart for Los Angeles, Mars and Pluto are angular and the nodal axis, being squared, falls exactly on 2nd/8th house cusps, again using Porphyry. Also, the L.A. Ascendant exactly squares George's natal Ascendant.

( The "rectified" time of 11:52:19 appears to coincidentally be the very close to the moment of Moon conjunct Ascendant. )
George Harrison - Pisces Sun, Venus in Pisces opposition Neptune. That sums up a lot of what we can see in him, using conventional astrology. I recall looking earlier at Harrison's chart for a prominent Varuna and being somewhat disappointed. I heard many radio pieces today, and the influence of Varuna seemed more clear than ever - but also, I thought at one point, Saturn. The Saturnian Capricornian nature of Indian mysticism - a sense of universal responsibility to become enlightened, of the futility of more selfish puruits. His own personality was in many was quite severe and serious. Pulling up the chart now, what I see is the exact square of Saturn with the Sun and the exact Varuna / Hylonome conjunction at the exact midpoint exactly semisquare them both. Eros is right in there as a bonus. I heard bits of songs, most of which I'd never heard before, not very exciting, but remarkably consistent - they "Hylonome = peacemaker" influence was very prominent, espectially when seen as mixed with Saturnian seriousness and Varunan devotion. Song after song about how he hurt each other, need to get together, achieve peace, stop hurting ... Sun 5:27 Pisces Harrison 19:00 Aries Varuna 20:19 Aries Hylonome 20:55 Aries Eros 21:26 Aries Saturn 5:55 Gemini Mars and Pholus are in a close conjunction which is in the 8-series as well, squaring the Aries and semi- and sesqui- squaring the mutables. Mars 21:23 Capricorn Pholus 21:03 Capricorn He was not interesting in the normal career "what other people think", but rather followed his bliss (Pholus) and was very ego-involved and passionate (Mars) about his philosophical interests. I just heard a little bit with Michael Palin commenting that sometimes he would "talk your ear off" about how the soul would outlive the body, etc. also in that series of squares and semisquares: Don Quix. 20:40 Cancer rx Heracles 5:27 Pisces Just out of curiosity, here is the loaded eighth-harmonic stellium of the above: Varuna 12:30 Virgo Sun 13:38 Virgo Heracles 14:30 Virgo Don Quix. 15:23 Virgo Saturn 17:18 Virgo Hylonome 17:21 Virgo Pholus 18:26 Virgo Mars 21:04 Virgo Eros 21:29 Virgo Another signature for lifelong seeking - instead of career or AS career: ? Chiron 25:31 Leo rx Node 24:56 Leo
Septile quote: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Centaurs/message/6150 The discussion of septiles made me wonder about Harrison, since the devotional aspect is so strong - looking at the 7th harmonic, Sun closely conjunct Neptune ! Sun 8:11 Libra Heracles 8:57 Libra - conj Sun Neptune 9:33 Libra - tri-septile Sun Mercury 9:05 Aries - half-a-septile Sun

The oppositions in the Harrison chart incicate his awareness of the "completed work" and a wholistic approach to life. Music and mathmatics translate that perception most easily. George, of course used both as a composer and musician. The spiritual impact on John,Paul,Ringo and Pete Best is history. Harrison is the subtle presence of the spirit of light and the spiritual anchor for that light. Mars in Capricorn Opposed Jupiter in Cancer is the backbone of a universal vibe reaching all of humanity. So gentle and present that it can easily be underestimated but so subtle that it can't be resisted. A masterful stroke. Venus at the last degree of the Zodiac ( I round my fractions forward ) opposed Neptune in Libra. The great image is impressed upon the the ethers once and for all. The master known as George Harrison leaves his mark on the foundation of a New Era and completes the Piscean Age Old Paradigm. God's Speed to you my old friend. The world of Humanity is greatful for your presence.

George Harrison's wide grand trine in the water signs made him and intensely sensitive man. Also, each ot the water houses contain at least one planet. That represents a deep well of emotion, insight, intuition. The placement of Jupiter in the house of its rulership (9th) indicated deep beliefs and faith. The Moon so close to the asc. also speaks to the connection of this talented man with his feelings and emotions and deep sensitivity. People who have a lot of water energy are deeply connected to the spiritual side of life. Perhaps it is as a result of having contacts with "the other side" whether consciously or not. George's Pluto close mid-heaven also speaks to the depth of his personality. Pluto people always know that there is something beyond the tangible.
